DMV Class D Road Exam

To schedule an appointment please call the front desk at (907) 696-2886. Payment is due at the time of scheduling, and is non-refundable.

EFFECTIVE MAY 1, 2021:

Eagle River Driving School, LLC. will resume road tests in personal vehicles and walk-ins as schedule permits. For vehicle requirements, please visit our Services page. To schedule an appointment, please call the front desk at (907) 696-2886.

Note:

  • Payment is required at time of scheduling the road test to secure your appointment.

  • Failure to provide printed copies of required documents may affect your road test eligibility.

  • Client must comply with DMV road exam vehicle inspection requirements [as listed under “What does my vehicle need?” here]

  • Applicants must provide proof of passing the DMV General Knowledge Test [examples: state issued permit, driver’s license, REAL ID]

  • ERDS does not perform CDL or M1-M3 road tests.

  • If you are renewing your license for any reason, please visit the DMV Reinstate your Driving Privileges webpage or call the DMV Driver Services office at (907) 269-5551 for information on the renewal process.

  • Military and first responder discounts = 5% (Active Duty, Retirees, Reservists/Guardsmen—ID required)

REFUND, CANCELLATION, RESCHEDULING AND NO-SHOW POLICY*:

Road Test fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.

All fees must be paid prior to subsequent appointments.

RESCHEDULING FEES apply to:

Customers providing less than 24-hour notice prior to their appointment (up to two (2) hours prior to their appointment)

Customers who arrive without proper documentation

NO-SHOW FEES apply to:

Customers who request to reschedule less than two (2) hours prior to their scheduled appointment

Customers who do not arrive within 15 minutes of their appointment start time

Private Lessons

For more advanced driver’s preparing to take their road test. Private lessons are provided to analyze a client’s readiness for the road test and provide guidance on client requests (ex: practice parallel parking, merging on the highway, driving on ice and snow). This service is also provided on the basis that clients are already familiar with driving laws, maneuvers and courtesies. These lessons will not:

  • Earn a certificate of completion for insurance discounts

  • Follow road test routes

  • Tell you how to pass your road exam

  • Remove points from your license

The month long driving course is strongly recommended for new and inexperienced drivers. Please call the front desk at (907) 696-2886 to schedule an appointment. Payment is due at the time of scheduling and is non-refundable.

Note:

  • Private lessons are non-refundable.

  • Must use ERDS vehicle, no private vehicles.

  • Must have a valid instructional permit

  • IF instructional permit is an out of state, THEN customer must show proof of passing the Alaska General Knowledge test and/or an instructional permit.

  • Lessons can only be done using a ERDS vehicle, cannot use the customer’s vehicle.

Eagle River Driving School, LLC (ERDS) 2021 Fee Statement & Refund Policy

Driver’s Education Course

A month long driving program overlapping in class and behind the wheel academics.

  • 9 hours of in-class AAA academic instruction + 8 hours of Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) instruction

  • 9 hours of in-class AAA academic instruction + 9 hours of of BTW instruction (an additional 1 hour drive is offered for an additional fee)

  • Road tests are opt-in for an additional fee.

  • Pick-Up and Drop-Off is a limited service pending manager approval and requires an additional fee.

Note:

  • A non-refundable deposit fee is required at the time of registration, but is applied towards account balance.

  • Refunds: no refunds for no-shows or cancellations within 48-hours of scheduled event.

  • Cancellations will be accepted up to 2 hours prior to the scheduled lesson.

  • Students will be considered a NO-SHOW 10 minutes after the appointment start time.

  • Effective August 1, 2020: Students are given a 1 No-Show grace. Thereafter a $50.00 fee will be assessed for each subsequent No-Show.

  • We do not offer the Driver Improvement Program required to remove points from license and/or driving record.

Important Information

1. IF UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE

A. Age:

i. Tester must be at least 16 years old as of the day of the test.

ii. Parent or legal guardian needs to sign the DMV Scoresheet in order to administer the test and enter results into the DMV STAR system for student to obtain their provisional driver’s license.

B. Instructional Permit (IP)

i. Tester must have had an IP for 6 months as of the day of the test.

ii. NOTE: IP are valid for 2 years from the date of issue

iii. IF IP was renewed or replaced within 6 months of road test, THEN tester must provide their previous IP, proof of passing the Alaska DMV General Knowledge (GK) test and/or a copy of their driving record.

iv. IF the applicant has an IP from another state, THEN the applicant must provide proof of passing the Alaska DMV General Knowledge test

v. NOTE: The GK test is valid for one year after the expiration date of an Instructional Permit (see DMV, p 6 2015)

IF 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER

a. Must present valid photo identification.

b. An AK State ID, IP, or Photo ID may satisfy this requirement.

c. Must provide an AK issued instructional permit as proof of passing the Alaska DMV General Knowledge test (available here).

ii. IF the applicant has an IP from another state, THEN applicant must provide proof of passing the Alaska DMV GK test and/or an instructional permit.

iii. GK tests must be current (valid for 12 months after date of test).
